wherebae (“wherebae,” the “App”) is a two-person location-sharing app published by SSB Media (“we,” “us,” “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Location data is personal — so we keep the App deliberately small: you share with exactly one partner, and nothing is sold to anyone.

1. Information we collect
We collect only what the App needs to do its job. That includes:
- Account identifier (Sign in with Apple). When you sign in, Apple gives us a unique, app-specific user identifier. We do not ask Apple for, or store, your name or email address. If you use Apple’s private email relay, we never see your real email.
- Display name. A name you choose so your partner knows who they’re looking at. It defaults to “Partner” until you change it.
- Precise location. Your device’s GPS coordinates, collected while the App is in use and in the background, together with related signals — speed, heading (direction), and your device’s battery level — so your partner sees a useful, up-to-date map.
- Places you create. The “Home,” “Work,” and any custom places you add — their coordinates and a radius — which power automatic arrival and departure alerts.
- Events. Automatic geofence events (e.g. “left home,” “arrived at work”) and manual status updates you send (e.g. “on my way”).
- Pairing information. The invite code you share or enter, and the record that links you and your partner as a couple.
- Push notification token. A device token from Apple Push Notification service (APNs) so we can deliver alerts when the App isn’t open.
- Subscription status. If you subscribe to wherebae+, we receive your subscription details (product, store, period type, renewal/expiry, and status) from Apple via RevenueCat. We never receive your card or payment details — Apple handles payment.
- Basic technical/diagnostic data. Standard server logs (such as IP address and timestamps) generated when your device talks to our servers, used to keep the service running and secure.
What we don’t collect: we don’t collect your contacts, photos, browsing history, or advertising identifiers, and the App contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs that track you across other apps. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
2. Location, specifically
Location is the heart of wherebae, so we want to be especially clear about it:
- The App requests “Always” location access so it can keep your partner’s map current and send automatic “left/arrived” alerts even when the App is closed or your phone is asleep. You can choose “While Using” instead, or turn location off entirely, in iOS Settings — though some features won’t work without it.
- Geofencing happens on your device. The App uses Apple’s region monitoring to detect when you cross the edge of a place you defined; only the resulting event (“arrived home”) is sent — not a continuous stream proving where you’ve been within that place.
- Your most recent location is cached so your partner can load it instantly, and a throttled history of past fixes is stored so the map and recent activity work reliably.
- You can pause location sharing at any time from within the App. While paused, your live location is not shared with your partner.
3. How we use your information
- To show your live location, battery, and movement to the one partner you’ve paired with.
- To detect when you leave or arrive at your places and notify your partner automatically.
- To deliver the notifications and quick status updates that are the core of the App.
- To create and manage the link between you and your partner.
- To provide, validate, and manage your wherebae+ subscription.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, debug problems, and provide support.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. How your information is shared
We share your information in only three ways:
- With your partner. This is the entire purpose of the App. The person you pair with can see your real-time location, battery, movement, places-based alerts, and status updates. Pairing is mutual and voluntary — and either of you can unpair at any time, which stops the sharing.
- With service providers (subprocessors) who run parts of the service on our behalf, listed below. They may only process your data to provide their service to us.
- For legal reasons — if required by law, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
5. Service providers we rely on
- Apple — Sign in with Apple (authentication), Apple Push Notification service (notifications), and the App Store / in-app purchases (payments & subscriptions). See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages and validates subscription status on our behalf. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
- Mapbox — renders the map inside the App. To draw the map around you, the Mapbox SDK processes location and may collect limited telemetry per its own policy. See Mapbox’s Privacy Policy.
- Cloud hosting & database providers — we store account, pairing, places, location-history, event, and subscription data on managed cloud infrastructure used to operate the App.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Location history is retained for a limited window so the map and recent activity stay useful; the exact window can differ between free and subscribed accounts. Invite codes expire automatically. When you delete your account (see below), your data is removed.
7. Your choices and rights
- Pause sharing — stop sharing your live location at any time from inside the App.
- Unpair — end the connection with your partner; this stops all sharing between you.
- Control location permission — change or revoke location access any time in iOS Settings.
- Manage your subscription — view or cancel wherebae+ in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- Delete your account and data — permanently, from inside the App (see next section).
- Access / correction / deletion requests — depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us using the details below and we’ll respond as required by law.
8. Deleting your data
You can permanently delete your account from inside the App: open Settings → Delete account. This immediately and irreversibly erases your account and everything tied to it — your profile and display name, your pairing, your places, your location history, your events, your device push tokens, and your subscription record on our servers. If you have a partner, they are automatically returned to the pairing screen.
Deleting the App from your phone does not by itself delete your server-side data — use the in-app option above, or contact us, to have it erased. Note that an active App Store subscription is managed by Apple and should also be cancelled in your Apple ID settings.
9. Security
We protect your data in transit using encryption (HTTPS/TLS), authenticate every request with signed tokens, and limit access to your data to your paired partner and the operational systems described above. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and to keep the App’s footprint of personal data as small as possible.
10. Children
wherebae is intended for adults in relationships and is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the App. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International data transfers
SSB Media operates from India, and our service providers may process and store data in the United States, the European Union, India, or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the App, you understand your information may be processed in countries other than where you live.
12. Changes to this policy & how to contact us
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Your continued use of wherebae after an update means you accept the revised policy.
